The estuaries of the rivers

In the estuaries of the rivers, in the village that gave its name in the current Municipality, has been created a brackish marsh, from the withholding of source of Almiros waters, with an artificial dam. Assembled waters are used here for the production of electricity. The Almiros river, that was named thus because of its sources that were full of brackish water, at past time had depth within two metres depending on its flow and width from 10 until 20 metres. This rich in vegetation region, constitutes a important biotope and a oasis of beauty, that is offered for relaxation and walk, in the shade of hundreds of Eucalyptuses which are planted from the first residents of village. Under the old bridge, between the small islands that shape the estuaries, smacks, boats and small ships of recreation, they all supplement a calm picture that does not have nothing to envy from the tables of most famous painters.

A beach full of colours

Length of 6 km beach of Georgioupolis and Koyrna's, that is extended up to the neighbouring prefecture of Rethimnon, constitutes pole of attracting of thousands of visitors, Greeks and foreigners, that each summertime submerge its golden sandy beach. Organised with salvage towers, chemical toilets, garages that attend for its cleanness, services for softly sea sports. A beach of colours and cheerful challenges: from the sunrise, blackened bodies are glad of hot Mediterranean helium, to the sunset, lonely couples and companies enjoy and relax with the fading of the sea in the horizon and at night, younger people spent their time dancing in some from the canteens of beach, while older people rest in the peacefulness of veranda, in someone of the big or small hotels of plain.
