Rethymnon is one of the most ravishing cities in Greece, with a special “character”, historical and architectural richness and important tourism development. While strolling about in the “old city”, you will observe that the architectonic elements dated back to the Renaissance co-exist with the Ottoman architectural style. In the “old city” there are also the most important sights of Rethymnon, such as the Grand Gate (Porta Guora), one of the very few remains of the Venetian fortifications of the city, St. Francis’ Church (Agios Frangiscus), the Nerantze Mosque (Municipal Music School) and the Historical & Folklore Museum, which are situated on the outskirts of Asia Minor Square. You should definitely visit the Venetian Rimondi Fountain and the Church of the Lady of Angels. If you have some free time, do not miss the chance to climb up Fortezza to admire the city and the sea view from high above. In Fortezza, in the Erofili Theatre, musical and theatrical events are held during the whole summer for you to attend!
Of course, do not fail to stop for a while at the quaint Venetian harbor and the majestic Loggia. If you want to go shopping, pass by Arkadiou Street and end up for coffee, lunch or a drink on the beach road, which is always full of people and turns into a pedestrian street every night.
